The half marathon features a tour of some of Richmond’s most beautiful and historic neighborhoods and is perfect for runners and walkers of all abilities who want to be a part of a great running event. From packet pick-up through the post-race celebration, you’ll be greeted with smiles and encouragement by race staff, volunteers, and spectators. Enjoy the musical performers and spirit groups along the course and be sure to leave plenty of time for the great Finish Line Festival on Brown's Island. Along with VIP Treatment, All Half Marathon Participants Receive...
Every participant receives an official long sleeve technical race shirt, a custom medal and fleece finisher blanket at the finish line, and is admitted to a special post-race celebration with plenty of free food, drink, and lots of smiles and pats on the back. Finishers can redeem a free certificate to recognize and commemorate their accomplishment. The half marathon course also each features energy gel, junk food stops (for that extra burst of energy in the waning miles), and wet washcloths. Water stops are positioned at the start and at eight other locations. Diamond Springs water and Mountain Blast POWERade (the blue stuff) are available at every water stop on the race course. Assorted flavors (vanilla, chocolate & citrus orange) of Accel Gel are available at Mile 8 of the half marathon. Port-o-johns are stationed at the Start/Finish and adjacent to every water stop. Medical attention is available along the course.

You’re running Richmond!! Let us roll out the red carpet for you, and add that one-of-a-kind touch to your race experience. You’ve trained this hard, now it’s time to take it easy and run in style.
Race morning will begin in your own private area where you’ll enjoy light breakfast items and coffee, private gear check and private restrooms. After the race, celebrate with a catered brunch, celebratory champagne, massage, and more! Go ahead, you deserve it!
The cost for the Run Richmond Premium Package is $199 and can be added to your entry while registering online. A limited number of packages are being offered. Check out the details.
The American Family Fitness Half Marathon begins at 7th & Broad Streets in downtown Richmond, one block north of the start line for the Anthem Richmond Marathon. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. sharp with Wave A.
Due to the size of the race, the American Family Fitness Half Marathon utilizes wave starts. Participants start in equal size waves with others of the same general speed based on the predicted time indicated on their entry forms.

4-Hour Course Time Limit
All participants must be able to finish the half marathon in 4 hours. In order to do so, you will need to maintain a 18:19 per mile pace or you will be asked to move to the sidewalk to enable the reopening of the streets to vehicular traffic. At that time, there will no longer be traffic protection, medical aid or water stops offered.
Diamond Springs water and POWERade are offered at Miles 2, 4, 6, and 8-12 on the Half Marathon course, as well as at the finish. Water is also available at the start. Port-o-johns are located at the start, all water stops, and at the finish. Accel Gel is offered at Mile 8 and wet washcloths are available at Mile 10. A Spectator Party Zone is located at Mile 7.
Free shuttle service will be available to take participants and spectators from the Post-Race Party back to parking areas located near the Start. The shuttle will run on a loop from 8 a.m. until the conclusion of the event. You can pick up the shuttle in the cobblestone circle on 7th Street just across the pedestrian bridge from Brown’s Island.
Shower facilities offered for out-of-town runners
The Downtown YMCA is offering shower facilities to participants after the race. The Downtown YMCA is located at 2 W. Franklin Street (between Foushee and Adams Streets), a block off the course about a half mile from the finish line. Please bring your race number with you on race day and show it to the front desk. Towels are not provided, so be sure to bring your own.
Overall awards are determined by clock time; age group awards by chip time. Cash awards go to the top five overall finishers, male and female. Additional awards will be presented to the top five in all age groups in all races. Age groups are: 9 & under*, 10-14*, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69 and 70-74 and 75 & up. (*8k only)
The Awards Ceremony for overall winners in each race will take place on Brown's Island in the Finish Festival area soon after they have all completed the race. Age group winners in all 3 races will be mailed their personalized awards after the race.
Sports Backers Half Marathon Training Team
The Sports Backers offer a Half Marathon Training Team to train for the American Family Fitness Half Marathon. The 14-week program begins on August 6.

- Entry fees are non-refundable; race numbers and entries cannot be transferred to another person. No exceptions.If you are already signed up for one race and want to switch to another and assuming the race you want to switch into has not reached capacity, you may do so online through September 30 or in person at the Race Expo.
